An open house presenting the M.A. Counseling of Palo Alto University was held in Shanghai Mental Health Center on July 4th 2015. Around 15 perspective students attended the event to experience this systematic counseling education opportunity. The program director Dr. Hui-Qi Tong, the associate director Dr. Jian-Yin Qiu and the recruitment counselor Emma Shi gave their thorough presentations of the program from 3 different perspectives.
With the gentle and comforting voice of Dr. Tong, the open house started in a brief mindfulness session called An Old Well and An Cobblestone, which helped to build a soothing relationship among all attendees and encouraged them to explore the true intents of coming to this event. Dr. Tong then shared with everyone her observation of the present situation of counseling education in the U.S. and its career prospect.
Emma Shi presented the M.A. Counseling program in details, including the program benefits, the accreditation, teaching resource, format, curriculum, IT support, application requirements and procedures.
Dr. Qiu laid her emphasis on the practicum placement for PAU students in Shanghai Mental Health Center, and showed the overall strength of Shanghai Mental Health Center clinically and academically.
After 20 minutes’ of Q&A, the attendees took a tour in several wards and counseling rooms of the Clinical Department with Dr.Qiu being the guider, which was an rear opportunity for everyone to have a direct sense of scope of the treatment model here and the practicum settings when they actually enroll in PAU.
