To further the collaborative relationship between Palo Alto University (PAU) and Shanghai Mental Health Center (SMHC), Dr. Hui-Qi Tong, the Director of PAU the MA. Counseling program, visited SMHC in the early April. A detailed presentation on the topics of the program accreditation, curriculum, practicum, technology support and career prospect was delivered by Dr. Tong to SMHC’s Vice President Chun-Bo Li, the Director of Research and Education Management Office, Dr. Zhen Wang, and the Deputy Director of Clinical Psychology Department, Dr. Jian-Yin Qiu.
Based on the MOU that the two parties agreed on in last November, an official Agreement was drafted and signed off by President Yifeng Xu from SMHC and President Allen Calvin from PAU in the early May. Dr. Jian-Ying, based in Shanghai, has been appointed the Associate Director of PAU MA. Counseling program since the first of May 2015.
Shanghai Mental Health Center, found in 1935, is responsible for the development of mental health career in Shanghai in terms of medical treatment, teaching and research, prevention and rehabilitation, counseling and academic exchanges. Being partners with SMHC will certainly benefit PAU students with qualitative opportunities to combine the internationally accredited counseling theories and techniques they have learned with Chinese context.
